What happens to our hair as we age???

Hair changes along with the rest of the body as we age. Hair follicles shrink, leading to thinner hair and sometimes hair loss, sebum production declines which causes dry, brittle hair, and pigment cells can be lost, leading to grey hair.

If you are concerned about the appearance of your hair as you get older, you can see a cosmetologist (hairstylist), Trichologist, or your dermatologist. A cosmetologist can point you in the right direction and help with the pesky grays and dry, brittle hair.. A trichologist can help regrow hair that’s been lost or help keep the hair you have holistically. A trichologist can also recommend the appropriate doctor for your situation, if necessary because they do a deep dive into the cause of hair loss. Hair loss therapies and medications work but it’s important to rule out a possible medical reason for hair loss.

Eat a balanced diet and supplement with an all-natural herbal complex for hair health. You need a good balance of protein, fat, and simple carbohydrate. Avoid or reduce inflammatory foods like sugar, caffeine, and alcohol. Aim to eat the rainbow in every meal, eat slowly, and enjoy all the flavors nature offers us. Salmon is one of the healthiest most versatile proteins one can consume. It's loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids, selenium which is great for thyroid function and so many B vitamins. One serving per week is great, but if you can get in two, it's even better! Smoked salmon for breakfast and grilled filets another night for dinner is an easy way to make that happen. I find so many good recipes on Pinterest. It's worth a search to see what flavor combinations resonate with you.
